When Duncan was rescued at the tender age of 3 weeks, his hind legs were already extremely stiff. Despite numerous attempts including massage, physical therapy, water therapy, and splinting, his rescuers were unable to improve his condition over several months.
Throughout the summer, Duncan consulted with numerous veterinarians, surgeons, and specialists in hopes of finding a solution to his leg problems. Unfortunately, none of them had a viable plan to remedy his condition. However, in September, Duncan’s luck changed when he met yet another specialist who proposed a procedure that promised a good chance of restoring Duncan’s ability to run and play with his pals. Despite the fact that recovery would be challenging, Duncan was willing to go through with it. The specialist straightened one leg at a time, performing two surgeries that were spaced a month apart. Currently, Duncan is wearing casts for approximately three months and visiting his vet multiple times per month for checkups. Nevertheless, Duncan has remained resilient throughout the process.
The individuals who saved him are appreciative that he has an amiable and carefree demeanor. Moving forward, their primary objective is to aid him in his physical therapy. Up until this point, he has not had the chance to stand up straight, so they have been assisting him in becoming accustomed to being in that stance. Additionally, they are performing numerous exercises multiple times a day that involve movement and stretching to enhance the strength of his leg muscles.
When the rescued individual manages to do something independently for the first time, many of us will surely express joyous tears as exclaimed by his savior.
