“Embracing Uniqueness: Witnessing the Love and Joy of Two Special Cats”

In my opinion, cats with special needs are truly remarkable. Not only do they tug at our heartstrings, but they demonstrate that being unique doesn’t have to define you. Often, these cats exhibit courage, resilience, and stunning beauty. When we welcome these cats into our homes and our lives, we offer them a safe haven and show them that they will never be without shelter again.
Poe and Paisley, an adorable feline duo, transformed their human’s world in ways she never expected. Although Paisley passed away last March, her memory and spirit continue to live on in the hearts of many. I spoke with Poe and Paisley’s owner, hoping to share their story, and luckily, she agreed. So, let’s get acquainted with this charming pair of cats who have proven that special needs cats deserve a chance at life, not euthanasia.

Tell me about the story of Paisley.
I have a sad story to share about Paisley, a feline friend we lost recently. She was a sweet and gentle cat who had been with us for many years until she developed an illness that took her from us too soon.

How did you meet Poe?
One day, while we were out and about, someone approached us to ask if we could rescue a little kitten they had found. We took him in and named him Poe. He was very young, only a few weeks old, and he was already paralyzed. It was clear that he needed special care and attention.

What can you tell me about Poe’s unique needs?
Poe had to be taken to the vet right away because of his condition. The doctors couldn’t find any broken bones or other issues, so they suspected that he had been born with nerve damage. As a result, Poe requires extra care and attention to help him live a happy and comfortable life.

Do you know how Poe got his adorable name? Well, it was actually his rescue partner who came up with the name and we loved it so much that we kept it. Now, after 4 years of being together, I couldn’t picture him being called anything else.

As for his personality, Poe is a huge fan of his mommy. He adores playing with his mice and catnip toys, but he doesn’t warm up to new people easily. When he does decide to venture out from under the bed to meet someone, he always looks back at me first to make sure I’m there with him.

What activities does he enjoy the most?
Causing mischief with the foster babies, playing with catnip toys, and chasing after mice.

What’s their relationship like?
Poe and Paisley have been inseparable ever since they were saved, so their bond is quite strong.

Do you know what makes Poe and Paisley unique? Despite being paralyzed, Poe proves that cats like him can still enjoy a happy and fulfilling life. He loves to climb and jump off things, even without the use of his back legs. To keep him healthy, he gets expressed thrice a day, follows a prescribed diet, and takes daily medication to prevent constipation. We want to thank Poe and Paisley’s human for allowing us to share their story with our readers at Cattitude Daily.
