Against All Odds: How a Determined Feline Caught Up with Her Littermates Despite the Obstacles

Despite facing several obstacles, a determined kitten managed to keep up with her littermates. Caroline Grace, the founder of Baby Kitten Rescue based in Los Angeles, received a request to assist eight kittens who were brought to a nearby shelter. These felines were struggling with various health problems and were in poor condition. Upon opening the cardboard carrier containing the kittens, Caroline was taken aback by their state, as relayed to Love Meow.

As Caroline approached the group of kittens, she noticed that they were all lying still on their sides. Two of the kittens, named Ruby and Emmy, seemed to be struggling to breathe. Without hesitation, Caroline began to give critical care to the litter. She placed the kittens into an incubator to help regulate their body temperatures. To combat hypoglycemia, Caroline provided fluids and glucose supplements. Unfortunately, all eight kittens had contracted Calicivirus, which caused respiratory illnesses and mouth ulcers. Among them, Ruby was the smallest and in the worst condition. At only two weeks old, she was the size of a newborn.

Ruby faced difficulties with breathing and had sores around her mouth, which made it hard for her to recover fully. She required constant tube feeding and prolonged medication, unlike her siblings who improved after a week of intensive care. Ruby’s progress was slower, but she remained positive and determined to catch up in size and strength. Despite being small, weak, and sick, Ruby displayed an unwavering will to survive, which Caroline noticed and shared with Love Meow. Eventually, Ruby began eating on her own, and her mouth and paw sores healed gradually.

As Ruby’s weight increased, her true personality emerged. Despite her wrapped paw, she would purr and make biscuits while being held and cared for by her foster family. While the other kittens graduated to a playpen, Ruby and her sister Emmy, who were the smallest ones, continued to heal in an incubator with the support of their loving foster family.

Ruby never complained about the extra care and treatments she received, and instead, she would purr and make biscuits on her blankets. A week later, when Ruby joined her siblings in the playpen, she wasted no time exploring her new surroundings and playing with every toy she could find. This helped her develop a confident and brave personality. It was evident that Ruby and Emmy’s bond was special as they did everything together. Emmy became the sassier and more playful sister while Ruby continued to be a snuggle baby. Recognizing how much the two sisters needed each other, the rescue agency started looking for a good home that would adopt them as a pair.
